In today's session we will cover the following topics:

  • What is a Computer?

  • Computer Hardware

  • The Operating System

  • Using the Mouse

  • Using the Keyboard

Class Exercise - Turn on the Computer

If you haven't already done so, turn on your computer.

  • Locate the power button, and depress it.

  • The computer will go through a process called the Power-On Self Test (POST).  Your screen may display the results of the test, or may simply display the logo of the computer manufacturer.

  • The Windows operating system begins to load.  This will take a minute or two.

  • Once Windows has loaded, a Logon Screen will display. 

  • Enter the User ID and Password written on the board in the front of the class.
